DAY BY DAY

Day 1:
Airport - Negombo
Shuttle to our hotel in Negombo. Negombo is a well-established beach resort and fishing village surroudned by a lagoon and the Indian Ocean.

Day 2:
Negombo - Kandy
Today, we will get our bikes and riding gear ready for the first day of the tour. We will all be riding Honda XR 250s, Honda XR "Baja" 250s, or Yamaha XT "Artesia" 400s. These single-cylinder machines are easy to ride and ideal for off-road conditions. We will leave Negombo and head towards Kandy, stopping at the famous Pinnawela elephant orphanage on the way. At Pinnawela, we can watch the elephants being washed at the river and fed before heading to our hotel just outside the ancient town of Kandy. Other attractions include the Spice Gardens, the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, and a performance by the Kandy Dancers, who wear special clothing and masks. There are also fire-spitters, fire walkers, traditional dancers, kolam-dancers, etc. The performance takes about one hour, and should not be missed!

Day 3:
Kandy - Sigiriya
On Day 3, we will ride through the mathale road to road rock fortress of Sigiriya & Dambulla Rock temple. The 5th century fortress must be considered one of the treasures of the world. From Sigiriya, we travel on to the island's medieval capital of Polonaruwa and its famous reclining Buddha.

Day 4:
Sigiriya - Minneriya
This is a rest day. We will rest up at the Peacock Solitude Hotel, located on the Polonnaruwa road at Minneriya.

Day 5:
Minneriya - Kandy
We will take a journey through the awesome Knuckles mountain range. This area is called "Corbett's View", named because of its viewpoint overlooking Corbetts Gap in the Knuckles range. This is a unique location with an excellent opportunity to experience what it's like to live right in the heart of these mountains. The panoramic views are particularly dramatic in the morning, when a colorful sunrise illuminates the skies. After we ride through the country to our hotel in Kandy.

Day 6:
Kandy - Ramboda Falls
We will hop back on our bikes and ride up into tea country toward the hill town of NuwaraEliya. En route to our hotel at Ramboda Falls, we will visit Horton's Plains, or "World's End". This fascinating plateau is located at a height of 7,000 feet and is recognized for being one of the most ecologically important sites in the world. It is home to a wide variety of diverse flora and fauna, including leopards, monkeys, and sandbur.

Day 7:
Ramboda Falls - Ella Adventure Park
We continue through the beautiful hill country to the Ella Adventure Park hotel. Through the lesser-known hill station of Bandarawela, we arrive at our eco-friendly hotel. The hotel is located in a beautiful virgin forest, close to the clear mountain springs. It really is paradise. The tree houses, eco-lodges and jungle cabins are certainly out of the ordinary. Built with minimum impact on the environment, the accommodation blends perfectly with the environment.

Day 8:
Ella Adventure Park
Today will be another rest day. Feel free to take a gentle walk through the jungle, or relax at the hotel. The choice is yours.

Day 9:
Ella Adventure Park - World's End Lodge
Back on the bikes, we head through tea plantation country. The short climb to Lipton's seat is well worth the visit. The seat is named after Thomas Lipton, the man who brought tea to Ceylon. The views from this 6,500-feet-high spot are breathtaking. We will pass Bambarakanda waterfalls, which at 850 feet are the highest of the 100 or so waterfalls that can be found in Sri Lanka. Tonight, we will be staying at the World's End Lodge. This tranquil oasis, located on the roof of Sri Lanka, is totally isolated from the rest of the world. There are stunning views, and you can enjoy a refreshing dip in the swimming pool, which is located in one of the most scenic places in the world.

Day 10:
World's End Lodge - Yala National Park
We will leave the mountains and travel down towards the coast to Yala National Park. Yala has the highest concentrations of leopards in the world (approximately 35). It is possible to take full-day jeep safaris, or to split your day into morning and afternoon drives. Your best chance to see a leopard is generally early in the morning and then again at dusk. The male leopards in Yala are very confident, and are often seen walking the tracks during the day. Young males in particular seem to have no fear of the jeep, which can lead to some excellent photographic opportunities. Along with leopards, there is also a substantial elephant population, along with spotted deer, samba, wild buffalo, sloth bear, jackal, mongoose, pangolins, and crocodiles.

Day 11:
Yala National Park - Unawatuna Bay
Day 11 takes us out on the coast road, where we will still be able to view the damage caused by the tsunami of 2004. However, buildings are being repaired, and businesses and homes are up and running. Amongst the people who have rebounded back form the tsunami disaster are the fascinating stilt fishermen of Unawatuna. Unawatuna Bay has beautiful sun-drenched beaches, and is lined with majestic coconut groves.

Day 12:
Unawatuna Bay - Negombo
The final day on bikes sees us follow the coast back to Negombo. We will visit the Kosgoda Turtle Research Centre, which was destroyed by the tsnuami. Thankfully, they rebuilt quickly, and are continuing their work protecting five different species of endangered turtles, including the beautiful Leatherback turtle. One encouraging and slightly surprising sign is that since the disaster, the number of turtles coming back to the beach has increased since before the disaster, so the volunteers and staff are optimistic that, with help rebuilding, they can continue successfully in the future.

Day 13:
Negombo
We will spend the rest of this day on the beach. Feel free to do some last-minute shopping before our farewell meal. Hopefully you will have had the trip of a lifetime and made some new life-long friends!

Day 14:
Negombo - Airport
We will transfer you to the airport for your flight home.

Note: We reserve the right to make changes.
