DAY BY DAY
Day 1:
Airport - Rekyavik
Your tour guide will meet you at the airport at your arrival and drive you to the capital of Iceland, Reykjavik. After being dropped off at your hotel, you will have an opportunity to relax for the evening. A welcome dinner will follow, which will allow you and the guide to become acquainted and discuss the upcoming adventure.
Day 2:
Reykjavik - Landmannalaugar
To make the most of the first day, riding will begin in the early morning after a brief introduction to Icelandic traffic laws. First we will ride to the east to ride along the coast and see the black beaches of the Atlantic Ocean, and then we will head into the highlands. En route to Landmannalaugar, where we will spend our first night, you will get to visit one of the most colorful and beautiful areas of Iceland. There are many natural hotsprings and coldsprings in the area, forming a creek in which we can swim after a great day of riding.
Day 3:
Landmannalaugar - Lake Mývatn
From Landmannalaugar, we drive on the so-called Sprengisandur route, which is the longest stretch between the south and the north coasts and is passable during the summer months. The landscape is very desolate and barren because there is no water - and where there is no water, only sparse vegetation can be found. We will stop frequently on our way to Lake Mývatn to visit some interesting places and take in the scenic beauty of this unforgettable route. In the afternoon we will arrive at Lake Mývatn, where we will spend the next night. Before dinner we can go to Mývatn's Nature Baths, Iceland's newest geothermal spa, to relax and gather strength.
Day 4:
Lake Mývatn - Akureyri
We will start early again and ride more gravel roads along the big glacier river, Jökulsá á Fjöllum toward the most powerful waterfall in Europe: Dettifoss. The next stop will be Ásbyrgi, one of nature's wonders - an enormous, horseshoe-shaped depression formed in the rocks. After a nice lunch there, we will ride through the scenic landscape of Iceland, feeling the wind and the pure air. In the late afternoon we will arrive in Akureyi, the capital of the north, where a nice dinner with good friends finishes up the day.
Day 5:
Akureyri - Kerlingarfjöll
We will say farewell to Akureyri and head up to the highlands. This route will take us between two big glaciers, Langjökull glacier and Hofsjökull glacier. In the east and the south are the gray moraines, barren remnants of the ice age, and low mountains decorate the otherwise plateau-like landscape. On a fine day, the panoramic view from the Kjölur route is breathtaking. Our accommodation for the night is in Kerlingarfjöll, a main ornament in the chain of mountains and glaciers framing the Kjölur area.
Day 6:
Kerlingarfjöll - Reykjavik
From Kerlingarfjöll the road takes us to the southern part of the Kjölur area and through some of the most magnificent landscape Iceland has to offer. We will stop at Gullfoss (The Golden Waterfall), Iceland's most famous waterfall, and a popular tourist attraction. Not far from Gullfoss waterfall is Geyser, the world-famous hotspring. We will take a look at different kinds of hotsprings in the area and then we will have lunch there. Our next stop will be Thingvellir (parliament planes) national park, which has a beautiful landscape and much culture and history. The oldest parliamentary institution in the world, called Alþing, was formed in Thingvellir in the year 930 AD. Thingvellir is also the only place where you can see the Europian and American tectonic plates move apart from each other - about four centimeters per year! On our last leg to Reykjavik, we will visit Nesjavellir, the largest geothermal power plant in Iceland, which is located by the old volcano, Hengill. We will arrive to Reykjavik in the late afternoon. This last night of the tour is left open for you to relax or explore the city.
Day 7:
Reykjavik - Airport
The last day you can choose to relax in town, go to the Blue Lagoon on our way to the airport, or just go to the airport right away (depending on your departure time).
Note: We reserve the right to make change.
